It's Saturday !!!

   It's the end of the week, our scissors have been polished, clippers oiled , the towels done, folded and put away, the last of the hair has been swept from the floor and our stations put right in anticipation of the busy week ahead. I'm the last one here as usual, the staff has hurried off to enjoy the freedom of the weekend.The soft rays of the afternoon sun bath the salon, now quiet, in its golden light and I look around one last time before locking the door and smile, remembering the week just passed. All of the fun that we had with our guests, some very familiar to us, some new to our salon. The silly jokes, a glass of wine, sharing our hopes and dreams, our triumphs and tragedies with one another while time rolls along its lonely course, relentlessly. I'm happy, thankful to be in an industry that I love, that I believe in.  How fortunate I am to be in a profession that allows me to feel that I can make a difference everyday without ever feeling that I had to work.I can't wait for the new week to arrive so that I can do it all again.

Fall is here, well almost!

   I know it doesn't officially arrive for a little while but for all intents and purposes, it is here. It's time to retire your summer wardrobe and start thinking about a change of style for the new season. This past week I've already been changing a lot of my guests to their fall palette. As a colorist I find that peoples skin tones change with the season so it is my responsibilty to change their haircolor to keep them looking good all year long. Sometimes the changes are subtle, such as weaving fine ribbons of red throughout their summer blonde in order to warm up their skintones for the season. For our guests with a darker base color I like to minimize their high-lights by doing a color wash in whatever shades will best compliment their complexion or we eliminate them all together giving them a richer, shinier, healthier look for the colder months that are on the way. This also gives them something to look forward to in the late springtime when it's time to add their high-lights back in for the summer.
   So if you're not a guest of our salon, talk to your stylist on your next visit and see what they recommend for you. Afterall, who knows your hair and its needs better than they do?

Summer's coming to a close

   The kids are already back in school, there's one more holiday left to enjoy and then Autumn shall be upon us. Shorter days and long, cool evenings spent remembering the season just passed. It's time to think about getting your hair back into shape from summer's sun and fun with a deep conditioning treatment. Maybe a new color for the fall, a new cut or both.
